Lorde has sent fans into meltdown by sharing a teaser for what will be her first new music in four years.
Basically, no one can handle it.
The Liability hitmaker shot to fame after the success of her song Royals and EP Pure Heroine in 2013, following it up with Melodrama in 2017.
But since then, it’s been quite literally radio silence from the 24-year-old.
So, where has she been?
Where has Lorde been?
Lorde released her last new music in summer 2017.
Little did we know the wait we’d have in store…
Following up the release of the album, she smashed it on her world tour and was still out and about in the spotlight.
The months following Melodrama also saw arguably one of the most iconic moments in Lorde’s career – when she confirmed she had an Instagram account dedicated to onion rings (which is still active as recent as six weeks ago, we shall have you know).
While the internet was convinced she and writer Jack were a thing after some cosy photos emerged. the pair were having none of it.
‘I love him, he’s awesome. But we’re not dating. Please!’she said at the time.
Lorde and music executive Justin sparked romance rumours when they were seen out together multiple times.
The pair have been spotted together as recently as November 2020.
We didn’t know it at the time, but Lorde headed back to the studio just for fun – but it turned out to be the beginnings of her third album.
In 2020, when the pandemic hit, the star confirmed she was working on her third album while in lockdown, updating fans and giving us all something to look forward to.
‘I started going back to the studio again in December, just for something to do, and to my surprise, good things came out,’ she wrote. ‘Happy, playful things. I felt my melodic muscles flexing and strengthening.
‘Jack [Antonoff] came over to work in the studio in Auckland, and I went to LA. It flowed. A thing started to take shape. And then, of course, the world shut down. We’re still working away – Jack and I FaceTimed for over an hour this morning going over everything. But it’ll take a while longer.’
She added: ‘I can tell you, this new thing, it’s got its own colours now. If you know anything about my work, you’ll know what that means… The work is so f***ing good, my friend. I am truly jazzed for you to hear it.’
Fans got a release – although not exactly the one they were hoping for – in November, as Lorde shared her book Going South.
It documented her 2019 trip to Antarctica, before she started writing new material after Melodrama.
Things are all quiet on the Lorde front and it’s been months of silence, then suddenly she’s back.
The announcement for Primavera 2022 included the star as part of the line-up, meaning she’s set to play her first concert in over two years.
This month, fans finally got what they’ve waited years for – a teaser for some new music.
The Royals singer updated her website overnight on Tuesday with a photo of what appears to be a single or album cover for a release titled Solar Power.
A message on her website states: ‘Arriving in 2021 … Patience is a virtue.’
Oh girl.
