“Titane” Wins Palme d’Or At Cannes

The 2021 Cannes International Film Festival awards ceremony was hit by a bit of a snafu when jury president Spike Lee accidentally announced the winner of the Palme d’Or at the start of the night – not the end.

“Raw” director Julia Ducournau’s extreme fantasy drama “Titane” took home the top award. The film blends body horror, female revenge films, and “Fast and Furious” car-obsession. NEON, who released 2019 Cannes winner “Parasite,” will release “Titane” in the United States.

The runner up Grand Prix prize went to Asghar Farhadi’s “A Hero” and Juho Kuosmanen “Compartment No. 6”. Special Jury Prizes also went to Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s “Memoria” and Nadav Lapid’s “Ahed’s Knee”.

Best director went to Leos Carax for “Annette,” best script to Hamaguchi Ryusuke and Takamasa Oe for “Drive My Car,” best actor to Caleb Landry Jones for “Nitram,” best actress to Renate Reinste for “The Worst Person in the World” and the Camera d’Or to Antoneta Alamat Kusijanovic for “Murina”.
