“The Last of Us” Gets A PS5 Remake

Sony PlayStation and Naughty Dog are reportedly developing a full-blown remake of its iconic 2013 PS3 video game “The Last of Us” – one that will update the game’s visuals and gameplay to be much closer to the look and feel of last year’s sequel “The Last of Us Part II”.

Bloomberg reported on the news, saying Sony has been developing the project for some time, hiring a small team of developers outside of Naughty Dog to bring the original “Uncharted” up to date before switching over to the original “The Last of Us”.

However the group never got the appropriate funding and so was moved to help develop “The Last of Us Part II”. Since its release last year, several Naughty Dog developers have now been brought in to back the remake.

The remake news arrives as Naughty Dog continues to work on a multiplayer project and a long-rumoured new installment in the “Uncharted” franchise. The timing makes sense though with HBO’s “The Last of Us” TV series and Sony’s “Uncharted” film with Tom Holland on the way with both potentially hitting next year.

It also comes as there’s increasing pressure from fans for Sony to patch “The Last of Us Part II” on PS5 to take full advantage of the new hardware and run at 4K/60fps.
