The Good Place, Barry, Killing Eve among entertainment Peabody Award winners

The 2019 Peabody Awards have heralded ten critically lauded projects as the best programs on television.

Among the programs to be honored at the upcoming 78th Peabody Awards gala are BBC America’s Killing Eve; HBO’s Barry and Random Acts of Flyness; FX’s Pose and The Americans; Cartoon Network’s Steven Universe; NBC’s The Good Place, and three Netflix titles, Hannah Gadsby: Nanette, Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj, and The End of the F***ing World.
PBS’ long-running variety show Sesame Street was also named as the 2019 Institutional Award winner for “50 years of education and entertaining children in the U.S. and around the world” and “reminding citizens and politicians why public broadcasting is necessary and valuable, challenging us to make a difference and to be good, caring people while we do so,” per a Thursday press release.
The prestigious awards body, founded in 1940 at the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia, bestows yearly accolades only when its jury of industry professionals (including media scholars, critics, and journalists) unanimously agree upon individual winners across television, radio, and digital media categories.

This year, the jury’s awards — including Rita Moreno‘s Peabody Career Achievement Award — will be handed out Saturday, May 18 at a ceremony to be held at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. For more information on the 2019 recipients, head to the Peabody Awards’ website.
