Thai Rescue Film Sets Australian Shoot

Ron Howard’s new film “Thirteen Lives,” based on the news-making events in 2018 about a children’s soccer team daringly rescued from a flooded Thai cave, will start filming this March in Australia.

The soccer team were stuck for days with no supplies and falling oxygen levels in the Tham Laung cave, trapped by heavy rain and flooding.

A group from all over the world came together to work with the people of Thailand to save the boys including expert divers from the U.K. and Australia.

Queensland’s Gold Coast hinterland will double for Thailand in the project and the country will provide $9.6 million USD to MGM and Imagine Entertainment towards the production.

In return, the production is expected to inject more than $70.8 million USD into the economy, directly creating around 435 jobs for cast and crew.

Both Australia and Thailand have effectively been able to shed the coronavirus pandemic with only a handful of cases each in recent weeks – almost all of which are returning travellers from overseas in quarantine.

Brian Grazer, P.J. van Sandwijk, Gabrielle Tana and Karen Lunder will produce.
