Paramount’s “Scream,” the fifth film in the horror-comedy franchise, is on track for a solid opening weekend at the box-office.
Domestically the film is targeting a $30.6 million haul for the three-day and a $35 million haul for the four-day. Internationally, the film is tracking to make a further $18 million for the three-day.
Reviews have been quite good for the new film from critics and decent from audiences with a B+ CinemaScore. However the surging Omicron variant of COVID-19, which is either peaking or about to peak in many countries, likely softened those numbers a little.
In its fifth weekend, “Spider-Man: No Way Home” was finally knocked off its perch – dropping to second place with a $20.8 million three-day and $26 million four-day haul estimated domestically.
As of Sunday, it has crossed the $700 million mark domestically and the $900 million mark overseas for a total of $1.62 billion so far.
Universal’s “Sing 2” came in third with $8.3 million and $11 million for the three & four day period, along with a worldwide total to date of $216 million. Spy ensemble “The 355” came in fourth with a projected $2.3 million and $2.8 million for the three and four-day totals.
“The King’s Man” rounded out the top five. In limited release, the animated feature “Belle” is tracking to score $2 million for the four-day.
