- A new rumor claims the Xbox Series S and Series X will launch on Nov. 5 and Nov. 6, respectively, followed by the PS5 on Nov. 13.
- The Series S will reportedly cost $299 compared to $399 for the all-digital PS5, while the full-fat PS5 and Series X will retail at $499.
- Recent rumors appear to be converging on an early to mid-November release window.
Another day, another next-gen console rumor. This time around, it concerns the launch date and price of not just one, but both next-gen PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles.
Posting on Twitter, industry analyst Roberto Serrano says Microsoft plans to launch the Xbox Series S on Nov. 5, then a day later, the Xbox Series X on Nov. 6. Sony will allegedly follow up a week later and launch the PS5 on Nov. 13.
According to Serrano, who’s certainly been vocal in the build-up to the next-gen, the information is more than a mere ‘rumor or speculation,’ which he reportedly received from ‘sources.’
Serrano offers a caveat, though; platform holders are likely to change the details ‘for any reason at anytime.’ Not exactly words that instill confidence, but with Sony and Microsoft fiercely guarding their launch plans, there’s little else for fans to sink their teeth into as they await official word.
Serrano’s tweet also touches on pricing. According to his sources, the Xbox Series S will retail at $299, while the Xbox Series X will cost $499. As for Sony, the company reportedly plans to launch the PS5 with a price tag of $499 for the full-fat version and $399 for the all-digital disc-less version.
This part is a little harder to digest; a glut of reports suggest that Sony and Microsoft aim to undercut one another to secure that all-important early advantage. The PS5 and Xbox Series X sharing the same price seems unlikely.
Rumors Converging on Early-Mid Nov. PS5, Xbox Series X Launch
While we can’t stress enough the need for a good dose of salt, rumors of late seem to be converging on a similar time frame in early to mid-November.
Last week, updated versions of Microsoft’s Xbox controller were spotted out in the wild, including a stickered package advising retailers not to sell or display the peripherals before Nov. 6.
Similarly, Epic Games recently unveiled a Fortnite bundle releasing on Nov. 17 that will ‘arrive in time for the release of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X next-generation consoles.’
With the Holiday 2020 period fast approaching, we hopefully won’t have to wait long for Sony and Microsoft to finally share official details.
