Payne, Netflix Board The “Luther” Movie?

Jamie Payne has reportedly come onboard to direct the Idris Elba-led “Luther” movie which will now apparently be at Netflix and the BBC. Payne helmed the most recent fifth season run of the series.

Giant Freakin’ Robot broke the Netflix report and Collider the Payne hiring, however no official statement on either front has been issued.

Should it prove fruit it will be Elba’s fifth collaboration with Netflix following his performances in the films “Beasts of No Nation,” “Concrete Cowboys” and the upcoming “The Harder They Fall” along with his DJ series “Turn Up Charlie”.

“Luther” ran for five seasons on the BBC and starred Elba as DCI John Luther, a brilliant but troubled homicide detective and his occasional and complicated relationship with genius sociopath Alice (Ruth Wilson).

Series creator Neil Cross serves as screenwriter on the film which Elba will executive produce. The project has long been in the works but now it’s looking like production could start as early this September.
