The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has set a March 27th 2022 date for the 94th annual Academy Awards ceremony. Nominations will be revealed February 8th.
The next Oscars will not be retaining the special eligibility period that they had for 2021 so all films that qualify must be released before December 31st this year.
Though earlier than this year, the awards show is still being held a month later than usual due to two other big events taking place – the Super Bowl in Los Angeles on February 6th and the Winter Olympics in Beijing running from February 4th-20th.
The logistics of running all three shows would simply be too much, forcing the Academy to push the awards back.
