Netflix, Abrams Plan U2 Origin Series

Nine Network

Netflix is teaming with J.J. Abrams and his Bad Robot Productions to develop a scripted drama series about iconic rock band U2.

Oscar-nominated “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Darkest Hour” writer Anthony McCarten will pen the project which is untitled and still in very early development stages, and so a long way from casting and further specifics.

As for the band’s involvement in the project, details of that are being kept under wraps though sources tell the trades they are expected to be involved and sanction the project which is being backed by Warner Bros. Television.

U2 – fronted by Bono, lead guitarist the Edge, bassist Adam Clayton and drummer Larry Mullen Jr. – formed in 1976 out of Dublin.

To date, they’ve released fourteen studio albums, won 22 Grammys and have sold more than 170 million records worldwide and are music legends who’ve delivered some of the most famous songs, albums and live tours of all time.
