Lionsgate Plans Telemovie Remake Spree

Lionsgate and MarVista Entertainment have closed a deal that will see them remake a number of famed 1990s TV movies from the Hearst Entertainment Productions library.

Over 100 titles are up for potential reimaginings with the first confirmed one being the 1996 NBC film “The Babysitter’s Seduction”.

That film starred Keri Russell as a young woman who takes care of a widower’s kids, only to be seduced and become suspicious that the late wife was murdered. Phylicia Rashad, Tobin Bell and John D’Aquino co-starred.

Also on the remake block is the 2000 psychological thriller “Sex and Mr. X” which starred Linda Hamilton and Jacqueline Bisset, and the Harry Hamlin and Lisa Rinna-led thriller “Sex, Lies and Obsession”.

Others that could be up for new incarnations are holiday movies and more family-focused fare like Dolly Parton’s “Blue Valley Songbird,” the Leslie Nielsen-led “Santa Who,” and the Shelly Long-led “A Different Kind of Christmas”.

The remakes will be distributed jointly by Lionsgate and MarVista with the aim of championing new voices and emerging talent to reimagine the works from fresh cultural and diverse perspectives.
