Klopp: ‘A red jersey would look very good on Jadon Sancho’

Jurgen Klopp has poured cold water on suggestions of a Liverpool move for “very interesting player” Jadon Sancho.

Sancho has been linked heavily with a return to the Premier League this summer after spending three years at Borussia Dortmund.

Manchester United have long been considered favourites to sign the England international but it has also been claimed that Liverpool ‘will find funds’ to sign him if Klopp ‘does want the player that badly’.

The German is a fan of Sancho but “would be the most surprised of all” if he joined Liverpool this summer.

“A red jersey would look very good on Jadon Sancho,” he told Bild. “He is a very interesting player.

“But I don’t think such a transfer will take place this summer. If he moved to Liverpool, I would be the most surprised of all.”

Klopp also made no promises about any transfer business in the immediate future, despite persistent links with Thiago Alcantara and Adama Traore.

“I cannot promise that we will dominate football now, nor do I know if it is time to talk about major upheavals,” he said.

“But I know that our goal is to keep the team’s tribe together. The boys are currently in a great football age.”

The Mailbox really does disagree with that suggestion.

The Liverpool manager then paid tribute to his closest rival, Pep Guardiola of Manchester City.

“I can’t do anything with the title ‘Best coach in the World’,” he said of his new moniker. “But I know that together with the whole trainer team we are very good coaches.

“But I think Pep Guardiola is the best coach in the world.”
