“Underwater” and “The Signal” director Will Eubank is teaming with “Happy Death Day” and “Freaky” writer/director Christopher Landon on a reinvention of the “Paranormal Activity” supernatural horror franchise.
Eubank will direct while Landon, who wrote the second through fifth “Paranormal Activity” films, will executive produce and pen the script for Paramount Players. Jason Blum of Blumhouse and Oren Peli are back as producers and Steven Schneider is back as executive producer.
The new film is said to be an “unexpected retooling” of the franchise. The previous films were all famously shot for cheap, using the once popular found footage technique with security cameras, phone cameras, nanny cams, etc. used. That technique is expected to remain in place.
The six films came in at a cost of $28 million combined, but they were massive box-office generators and have made a total of nearly $900 million at the box-office. The new film has set a March 4th 2022 release.
