CD Projekt Red’s “Cyberpunk 2077” is said to be performing problematically (at best) on PS4 and Xbox One according to numerous technical analysis videos and waves of reactions on social media outlets like Reddit and Twitter with the hashtag #Cyberbug2077 currently being spread on the latter.
The most anticipated game of the year in many circles, the title was held back from reviews until a few days before release and even then they were only given the PC version. That version, which racked up a 90/100 on Metacritic, looks gorgeous and operated relatively steady – even with the bugs currently plaguing all versions of the game.
However, the game demands very high-end graphics cards to run at its best (namely this year’s NVIDIA & AMD models) and even the highest end on the market – the RTX 3090 – can’t entirely show it off at its true maximum potential.
On the other end of the scale are the seven year old base model PS4 and Xbox One’s where photos have gone viral of the graphical issues the title has had as the game struggles to render on the older hardware – resulting in low frame rates and resolution in the 720p/15fps region at times along with slow texture pop-in.
Even users with PS4 Pro’s and Xbox One X’s are reportedly having some big issues with the game’s appearance, while PS5 and Xbox Series X users are said to be much less impacted (thanks to the more powerful hardware) despite the odd glitches.
This is reflected in the Metacritic user scores which sits at 6.6/10 from just over 9000 reviews with very few actual mixed reviews (ie. 3000 negative, 5700 positive).
Patches are already well underway for the game with CD Projekt Red having issued a 1.04 patch to combat some big issues with the older consoles, along with fixing a lighting issue that those susceptible to epileptic seizures may be vulnerable to.
At present however there is no fix listed for one issue which sees the protagonist’s penis and/or breasts popping through their clothing. Other bugs include some NPCs actually stalking players.
As many have pointed out though, the developer’s previous title “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” launched with a similar large number of bugs – ones that were quickly corrected in the ensuing weeks with that game ultimately going on to be considered one of the greatest games of the past decade.
Check out some examples of flaws going viral below along with some comparison and analysis videos showing off what the game looks like with on PC and on older consoles.
Finally saw a direct PC shot to compare to my Series X one and now I’m just sad pic.twitter.com/eXOVZfOsmk
