Coronation Street spoilers: Shock exit revealed for Gail Rodwell after health scare?

The following article contains major spoilers for this week’s Coronation Street episodes, which can now be viewed on ITV Hub in the form of a boxset.

Gail Rodwell (Helen Worth) suffers a minor heart attack in upcoming scenes.

The legend, who first set foot on the cobbles in 1974, is left with a feeling of tightness in her chest, following a heated argument with her children.

‘I’m not having a heart attack, am I?’ she asks, as David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) resolves to take her to the hosptial.

Gail, however, does not want David to accompany her, nor does she want Sarah Barlow (Tina O’Brien) or Nick Tilsley (Ben Price).

‘Just call my mother’, she says. ‘Please. I want my mam!’

Gail does, in fact, suffer a minor heart attack, and she tells Audrey (Sue Nicholls) that her kids are to blame, given all the incessant bickering that’s been taking place.

As a result, the stalwart decides its time to leave the street.

‘I thought when I bought the house back it might be different,’ she says, ‘that I’d be queen of my own castle again.

‘Nothing’s going to change, is it? Because I do everything for my kids. And what do they do for me in return, eh?

‘I don’t want to be just a mum, anymore. It seems like I’ve spent my whole life being a mother, totally and completely wrapped up in my kids. Is that the only thing that defines me?

‘[I want to be] a person! Haven’t I done my bit? Do I not deserve a few years to myself at the end of it all? Or is this all it amounts to? Refereeing between that ungrateful lot until I peg it one morning ironing Batman underpants?’

Sorry, this video isn’t available any more.

Having listened to what Gail has to say, Audrey returns to No. 8, where she tells David and Nick that their mum has decided to leave the street.

‘She’s had a gut’s full,’ she exclaimed. ‘And she’s made a decision, that she’s going to leave Weatherfield altogether’

Will Gail really leave the cobbles?

With Euro 2020 causing scheduling disruptions, Corrie’s regular broadcasting pattern has been altered.

Therefore, the decision was made to allow audiences the opportunity to watch all of this week’s editions online ahead of broadcast.

These episodes will still air on ITV later this week, albeit in a different slot.

And, whether you’re bingeing or watching on the telly, it’s a week on the cobbles that’s not to be missed.

All of this week’s Coronation Street is now streaming on ITV Hub.
