Cathy Matthews (Melanie Hill) in Coronation Street has become known for putting her foot in it and often making situations worse, and in the coming weeks, Cathy takes this to the next level as she makes a terrible trolling mistake online that will see her ostracised.
Back in January, show boss Iain MacLeod revealed more on this storyline, saying: ‘In the Kabin, Cathy and Brian have the flavour of being very Coronation Street. There’s a story about the perils of social media and the hellstorm that can rain down on you if you take on the trolls.’
Soon, Cathy berates Brian (Peter Gunn) for chasing Steve (Simon Gregson) over his paper bill, pointing out that he’s grieving. Taking out her purse, Cathy pays his paper bill for him, unbeknown to Steve.
Cathy reveals she’d like to do more to help Steve with his fundraising. But when she shows Tracy (Kate Ford) some of her ideas, Tracy gives her short shrift leaving Cathy hurt.
Cathy offers her fundraising services to Tracy but she cuts her dead. Angered by Tracy’s comments, Cathy posts her own views online about Steve and Tracy’s fundraising efforts.
Steve is upset to read comments online suggesting that he and Tracy are syphoning money from Oliver’s fund.
When Cathy overhears Amy (Elle Mulvaney) telling Asha (Tanisha Gorey) about the online trolls and how upset her Dad is, she feels terrible.
Will Cathy come clean?
If she does, how will Steve and Tracy react?
