Bridgerton fans join in the fun with Bernie Sanders meme and the results are incomparable

Bridgerton fans have joined in with the viral Bernie Sanders memes after the US senator had the world in stitches thanks to his getup and seated pose at the presidential inauguration.

As Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were sworn into office, all eyes were on the masked up 79-year-old as he watched on in a big coat and mittens.

It didn’t take long for clever folks on the internet to have some fun with the snap, with Bernie placed into weird and wonderful places.

Turns out Lady Whistledown isn’t the only one spying on the members of the Ton in Netflix’s hit series.

Yep, Bernie has been edited in some of the most talked about scenes in the period drama.

The show’s star Regé-Jean Page shared one snap which saw Bernie joined Simon Basset, the Duke of Hasting and Anthony Bridgerton for a chat.

Other snaps saw Bernie witnessing Daphne and Simon ‘burning’ for each other up close, while he also made appearances in paintings, on boats and even chilling with the queen.

The US politician has taken the reaction to his Inauguration appearance in his stride as he admitted on Late Night with Seth Meyers: ‘I was just sitting there trying to keep warm, trying to pay attention to what was going on.’

Now his team is getting in on the action by selling a line of meme-themed merchandise benefiting Meals on Wheels in his home state of Vermont.

According to NBC News’ Garrett Haake, Sanders joked about the memes and she: ‘It makes people aware that we make good mittens in Vermont. We have some good coats, as well.’

A dark-gray sweatshirt featuring the photo of a masked-up Sanders is now on sale for $45(£32) from his campaign store online.

The unisex piece is selling fast with buyers being warned: ‘Due to overwhelming demand for this item, it may be a few weeks until you receive your sweatshirt.’

Bridgerton is available to stream on Netflix.
