“Black Lightning” To End With Season 4

The CW has announced it is bringing DC Comics series “Black Lightning” to an end with its upcoming fourth season.

The network remains in development of a spinoff series centered on the villain Painkiller (Jordan Calloway) with a backdoor pilot airing as the seventh episode of the forthcoming fourth season.

Cress Williams led the current series about a retired superhero turned high school principal. He is forced to become a vigilante again when the rise of the local gang called The 100 led by Tobias Whale leads to increased crime and corruption in his community of Freeland.

“Black Lightning” marks the third CW DC Comics series to end in recent times following “Arrow” wrapping after eight seasons and next year’s sixth season of “Supergirl” also ending its run next year.
