It looks like a sequel to Netflix’s action-comedy “Spenser Confidential” is on the way.
The film’s director Peter Berg and actor Mark Walhberg both spoke with Collider recently to discuss another project to be announced tomorrow. During that interview, Berg revealed that a follow-up to “Spenser Confidential” isn’t just a possibility – it’s already being scripted.
Berg tells the outlet: “Brian Helgeland, who wrote the first script, just turned in a first draft last week. So we’re definitely going to do Spenser Confidential 2, we’re just trying to figure out the dates.”
He adds that production hopes to begin around the very end of 2021 or beginning of 2022 for a likely late 2022 release. Wahlberg is currently shooting the “Uncharted” film adaptation in Germany and Berg is doing another project prior to the “Spenser” sequel, but adds: “we’re definitely going to do that [Spenser 2]. I’m sure Mark and I will be 85, 90 years old making movies together. We love working together.”
The first film debuted back in March and stars Wahlberg as an ex-cop recently released from prison who teams up with an MMA fighter named Hawk (Winston Duke) and his ex-girlfriend Cissy (Iliza Shlesinger) to untangle a web on conspiracy inside the Boston police department.
