Zemeckis The Witches Heads To Hbo Max Soon

Warner Bros. Pictures has ditched a planned U.S. theatrical release of the Robert Zemeckis-directed adaptation of Roald Dahl’s “The Witches”.

Instead, the dark fantasy comedy will head to HBO Max later this month on October 22nd. The film still intends an international rollout in cinemas at a later date.

The original book, and the previous 1990 film from director Nicolas Roeg, follows a young boy who happens upon a gathering of witches led by the Grand High Witch. With the help of his grandmother, he attempts to thwart their evil plan of turning all the children in the world into mice.

Anne Hathaway, Octavia Spencer, Stanley Tucci, Chris Rock, Kristin Chenoweth and Jahzir Kadeem Bruno lead the cast of the new adaptation penned by Zemeckis, Guillermo del Toro and Kenya Barris.
