Yetide Badaki (“This Is Us,” “American Gods”) will play African Warrior Queen Nzinga in an untitled Starz drama series about the famed ruler which is currently in development.
The series will take place in 17th century Angola and is described as being based on the true story of Nzinga’s transformation from an innocent princess into a fearless warrior queen.
Nzinga engaged in a ferocious forty-year guerrilla war against the cruel subjugation of her people by Portuguese slavers. She would sacrifice everything to defend her people’s dignity, liberty, and freedom.
Badaki will also executive produce alongside Mo Abudu, Steven S. DeKnight and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. No planned release date has been announced.
