Becky Lynch has explained how she simply called up Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson to ask him a huge favour before WWE SummerSlam.
The Man made her surprise return at the massive event in August – just nine months after she welcomed baby Roux into the world with husband Seth Rollins – and she stared using a new finisher which has been borrowed from The Great One.
Now named the Mandhandle Slam, fans quickly recognised the move as take on The Rock Bottom, and it turns out Becky called up the Hollywood star to make sure he was on board.
She told Ryan Satin’s Out of Character Podcast: ‘So I used a variation of The Rock Bottom before but it’s just easier to get it and go.
‘I asked The Rock if I could use it and he was very gracious and said that I could. [I] called him. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And I told him how SummerSlam is gonna go down.
‘And said, “Look, here’s what I’m thinking. I’m supposed to hit one move on her. Can I use this?” “Yeah!” ‘
While fans had been clamouring for Becky to make a comeback, many were disappointed to see her take the SmackDown Women’s Title off Bianca Belair in just over 20 seconds.
However, the champ has defended the decision for her to beat the EST of WWE with a punch and the Manhandle Slam as a way to build a story that actually helps Belair.
She explained: ‘So, I know a lot of people were upset. Like, “Well, if they were going to do this, then they should have had a long match!”
‘Well, if we had a long match and then I beat her, then I just beat her. That’s not good. That’s not good for her!
‘But if she’s robbed, and we take something from her, and she doesn’t expect it … then we want to see her succeed? Oh, we want to see her succeed!
‘We don’t want the person with it to have it anymore. We want that person to succeed. We want that more. I think we’re doing just fine.’
