When we do not take care of ourselves properly, it creates stress within the body. This has a huge impact on the glandular system, which sets the stage for chronic disease and illness to use our bodies for it’s command performance. One way we can help chronic disease and illness exit stage left is to implement a daily yoga routine. Yoga can serve as a wonderful tool to lay the foundation for a healthy body and mind for years to come.

Due to the current deep market correction our economy is facing, many people are unfortunately finding themselves unemployed and without company-paid benefits. As a result, it is imperative that we seek more preventative measures to keep potential health issues at bay to avoid massive hospital bills in the future.

The fact is, healthcare costs are at astronomical high right now. Why? The treatment for chronic disease and illness accounts for 75 percent of healthcare expenditures. The bottom line is these preventable illnesses are driving the cost of healthcare through the roof. This trend is only expected to continue to skyrocket.

It is time to take our health into our own hands. After all, we are the sole responsibility of our health. Not the doctors, nurses, acupuncturists, chiropractors or healthcare system. We are. With that said, I hope I’ve inspired you to at least consider incorporating yoga into your daily routine as a preventative measure.

Yoga, in many ways, is the perfect exercise. Its effectiveness is due to the fact that it is designed to work our bodies the way our bodies were designed to move. Yoga strengthens you from the inside out; using exercises that mimic every day activities such as: bending, stretching, and twisting. This helps condition the body to move more fluidly with routine movement.

Incorporating a yoga routine into your daily life empowers you to take charge of your health and well-being. With more and more companies laying off employees and dropping health benefits to reduce costs, we can’t afford not to be proactive in taking better care of ourselves.

If you were to incorporate yoga into your daily routine, you would immediately see results. Yoga has been proven to significantly reduce chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, depression and high cholesterol. It also creates more efficient lymphatic function, which in turn, boosts immunity.

Most types of yoga create heat in the body when practiced. This is extremely beneficial to increasing flexibility as well as stimulating the detoxification process. Tension in the body is released when the detoxification process is stimulated as the muscles are stretched and contracted.

When the body experiences any type of stress, the sympathetic nervous system is stimulated, putting our bodies in “fight or flight” mode. Yoga stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, which soothes the sympathetic nervous system when this happens. It does so by causing the mind to focus on the breath and body simultaneously.

Chronic disease rates are on the rise and healthcare costs are projected to continue their upward trend. It has become clear we need to take our health into our own hands. We should not have to rely on the medical system to “fix” us when we should be proactive in the first place. After all, if we respect our bodies by taking good care of them, they will serve us for years to come.
