Tottenham youngster Dane Scarlett has become the first 16-year-old to register an assist in the Europa League since Kylian Mbappe.
Mbappe’s assist actually came against Spurs in just the second senior appearance of his career for Monaco back in December 2015.
It was a 4-1 defeat for the Ligue 1 side at White Hart Lane, but he came off the bench to tee up Stephan El Shaarawy in the group stage match.
Five years on, the PSG striker’s status as one of the best players in world football is undisputed, having won four league titles and the World Cup with France, stepping things up another level in recent weeks with a hat-trick away to Barcelona.
Scarlett will see that as a good omen, and inspiration, as he looks to continue his development at Spurs with more opportunities in the coming years.
The young forward showed great tenacity, energy and enthusiasm to rob the ball high up the pitch, with his tackle effectively teeing up Carlos Vinicius for his second goal of the game in a 4-0 win over Wolfsberger.
Jose Mourinho is evidently a big fan of the rising star, looking exasperated as he tried to find the right words, eventually deciding on “incredible talent”.
