Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker hilariously mocked Jordan Pickford in the closing stages of the Reds’ 2-0 victory over Everton.
Alisson produced his first and only save of the Merseyside in injury time and he absolutely milked it for all it was worth.
The Brazil international had a quiet afternoon’s work in an ill-tempered local derby, although Everton did cause Jurgen Klopp’s side some problems on the counter attack – while Frank Lampard and Anthony Gordon believe they should have been awarded a penalty.
Lampard was not averse to turning to his old mentor Jose Mourinho’s park-the-bus tactics at Anfield as Everton looked to frustrate their city rivals with men behind the ball in a low-block set-up.
And they even turned to Diego Simeone’s playbook when it came to slowing the game down and doing everything they could to frustrate the hosts.
Liverpool took their bait in the first half as frustrations spilt over – and even got Jamie Carragher riled up in the commentary box – as they perceived Richarlison to be feigning injury and time-wasting in the first half.
Everton ‘keeper Pickford also frustrated the home crowd, having taken his time to get back up every time he collected the ball.
So Alisson took the opportunity to make fun of his opposite number when he finally had a save to make in the closing stages.
He saved a shot from his Brazil team-mate Richarlison and subsequently took an age to fall to the floor and get back up again – at a point in the game when the result had been settled, with Liverpool’s 2-0 victory coming courtesy of goals from Andrew Robertson and the king of the Merseyside derby Divock Origi.
“It was so hard. In the first half we weren’t at our best,” Robertson told Sky Sports in his post-match interview.
“We started playing their game instead of our own game – too many stoppages and things like that. I’ve been in a relegation battle so I know what it’s like.
“We had to play football, be patient and create chances, and thankfully we managed it. Patience was key.”
