Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga received a “horrible” glare from Virgil van Dijk following the Liverpool man’s spot-kick at Wembley on Sunday.
The Reds won the Carabao Cup after beating Thomas Tuchel’s side in a penalty shootout following a 0-0 draw.
AFCON might just have decimated Liverpool’s title chances
Spanish shot-stopper Kepa came off the bench in the closing stages of extra time, especially for the spot-kicks.
However, the former Athletic Bilbao man failed to save a single shot and blazed the decisive penalty over the bar to lose his side the cup.
During the shootout, Kepa purposely stood to one side of the goal for Van Dijk’s spot-kick, with the Dutchman smashing the ball into the same corner the Spaniard was covering.
After converting his penalty, Van Dijk delivered an evil glare into the direction of the Chelsea goalkeeper before walking back to the halfway line.
Speaking on Wrighty’s House podcast, former Arsenal striker Wright said (quotes via Liverpool Echo): “I saw stuff in the Carabao Cup that was pure crazy.
“With the Virgil penalty – to see Arrizabalga standing in the corner and Virgil still put it in that corner – and then it’s the way that Virgil looked at him afterwards.
“He gave him such a look of disdain, it was horrible. Virgil’s horrible!
“He’s got a great look of disdain.”
Meanwhile, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp believes state-of-the-art neuroscience helped his team win the Carabao Cup and will continue to play a part as they chase an unprecedented quadruple.
“Incredible impact,” said Klopp when asked what effect they had had.
“They are a fixed part of our coaching staff. They are not here all the time, they are in Germany obviously but they come over quite frequently.
“They were here for the last week, before that they were here for five days.
“It’s a very interesting new chapter for us because it’s not only penalties, although in the last week it was a lot about penalties because of the upcoming final. It’s about free-kicks, all kind of set-pieces as well.”
