Superstore
NBC comedy “Superstore” is set to end after its current sixth season, which was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Eleven episodes are left to air starting from January 14th. The show’s main star America Ferrera departed in the second episode of the current seasono of the single-camera set comedy, and the show’s ratings have been struggling of late. [Source: TV Line]
Outer Range
Imogen Poots, Lili Taylor, Tamara Podemski, and Tom Pelphrey have been cast alongside series lead Josh Brolin in the upcoming Amazon drama series “Outer Range”. Brolin plays rancher fighting for his land and family, who discovers an unfathomable mystery at the edge of Wyoming’s wilderness. Poots will portray Autumn, an itinerant woman who lives without regrets and who charms the Abbotts enough to let her camp on their land.. [Source: Variety]
Shuggie Bain
A24 and Scott Rudin Productions have scored the screen rights to Douglas Stuart’s acclaimed debut novel “Shuggie Bain” with plans to adapt for television. Scott Rudin and Eli Bush will produce.
Stuart is set to adapt the novel himself, which was inspired by his own childhood in 1980s Glasgow and written over a ten-year period while working full time in the New York fashion industry. [Source: Deadline]
Cointelpro
Peacock has begun development of a drama series about the FBI’s notorious COINTELPRO program. Leon Hendrix III and Ajani Jackson will write and executive produce the series with David Ayer, Chris Long, and Darryll C. Scott also executive producing.
Set in 1965, the series centers on a conservative black cop and veteran of the Korean War forcibly recruited into the FBI’s secret task-force to infiltrate the Civil Rights movement and destroy the organizations from the inside. Meanwhile his nurse wife, finds herself reinvigorated when she joins the movement behind her husband’s back. The pair end up on opposite sides of the war for America’s soul. [Source: Variety]
Death to 2020
Following Hugh Grant accidentally revealing the secret Netflix mockumentary project he was filming with “Black Mirror” creator Charlie Brooker, Brooker has now posted a decidedly vague teaser for this takedown of 2020 which hasn’t set a release date – though should hit before month’s end. All we know for now is that Grant plays a historian in the project.
