Try This 5-Minute Guided Meditation for the Energy to Start Your Morning Strong

If you’re looking to start off your morning strong, a guided meditation for energy can be just what you need to feel invigorated, grounded, and ready to take on whatever the day has in store.

In this five-minute guided meditation video, Manoj Dias, the cofounder and VP of Open—a mindfulness studio that encompasses meditation, breathwork, movement, and music—will take you through a short routine designed to boost your energy and mentally prepare you for the day. The guided meditation routine uses circular breathing to help achieve this. With circular breathing, as Dias explains in the video, you breathe in through your nose and out through the mouth, followed by a breath retention.

A few quick notes: If you’re pregnant or have pre-existing heart conditions, you should always check with your doctor first before beginning any kind of breathing routine such as this one. If this is your first time with breathing exercises, Dias recommends going slowly throughout the routine and not to worry about breathing too deeply. It’s also possible that you’ll notice coldness in your hands or feet during this—and that’s completely normal.

Before you get started with the quick guided meditation routine, you should find a comfortable position, whether it’s lying down or sitting up. Then Dias will guide you through 30 breaths. (Don’t worry, Dias will count for you, so all you have to do is focus on your breath.) Then after a deep exhale, you’ll relax your body completely, and spend some time bringing your attention to complete calm and stillness. Finally, Dias will guide you through a final inhalation and hold, before easing you back into your normal breath pattern.
