A sequel to the 1989 comedy Shelley Long comedy “Troop Beverly Hills” is in the works at Sony’s TriStar Pictures.
Long starred as a pampered Los Angeles socialite wife in the midst of a contentious divorce. In order to bond with her daughter she opts to rough it – serving as den mother of said daughter’s unruly, leaderless local girl scout troop of Wilderness Girls.
Despite her unorthodox ways, Phyllis demonstrates an unwavering commitment to the girls’ well-being and ends up becoming a surrogate mother to them. Though critically panned upon release, the film has since earned a cult following for its feminist themes and its portrayal of the 1980s.
Israeli director Oran Zegman will make her feature debut with the untitled sequel while Laurence Mark (“The Greatest Showman”) will produce while “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” writer and “Woke” showrunner Aeysha Carr is penning the script.
Carr recently signed on for the resurrection of another classic comedy – a reboot of “Planes, Trains & Automobiles”. Tamara Chestna is also set to work on the script.
