The first trailer has been released from “Free Fire” and “High-Rise” director Ben Wheatley’s new film adaptation of Daphne du Maurier’s psychological thriller novel “Rebecca”.
After a whirlwind romance with a wealthy widower (Armie Hammer), a naive bride (Lily James) moves to his family estate of Manderley – but can’t escape the haunting shadow of his late wife or the psychological manipulations of the housekeeper Mrs. Danvers (Kristin Scott-Thomas).
The book was previously adapted into the Best Picture-winning 1940 film by Alfred Hitchcock, though Wheatley says he’s not remaking that as this is very much its own take on the original literary source material.
Wheatley and screenwriter Jane Goldman penned this version which arrives on Netflix on October 21st.
