A three-year-old boy has been mauled to death by two dogs who also attacked his mother, leaving her seriously injured in hospital. Police in Carteret, New Jersey, are investigating after the toddler was killed by a neighbor’s pit bulls yesterday afternoon.
The horrific incident happened around 4.30pm in East Laurel Street in Carteret, when the two dogs apparently escaped from their owner’s house on the nearby Birch Street.
Both the toddler and his mother were flown to hospital following the attack, where the boy sadly succumbed to his injuries. His mother remains in hospital for treatment on seriously injuries.
Their names of the mother and her toddler have not yet been released by authorities, reports ABC 7.

Mayor Daniel Reiman said that according to municipal records from the Board of Health, the dogs were not registered with the town, as is required by law.
He said: ‘As a small community, our Carteret family mourns the heart-wrenching loss of our young neighbor. We pray for this young mother and family in this time of unimaginable grief.’
