“Red Notice” and “Skyscraper” director Rawson Marshall Thurber is attached to co-write and direct a live-action feature based on the classic 1980s “Voltron” animated series and toyline.
A bidding war has reportedly erupted with Warners, Universal and Amazon among the half-dozen or so studios and streamers in the mix to land the package.
One who is not is Netflix, despite the streamer being the home to the 2016 “Voltron: Legendary Defender” animated series reboot. Thurber created the new film’s story and will co-write the script with Ellen Shanman.
The original cartoon centered on five young pilots in a battalion named the Robot Lions, which are vehicles that join together to form a mega robot known as Voltron.
Bob Koplar, Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman will produce.
