Idris Elba will slip back on his signature grey tweed trenchcoat to reprise the role of troubled DCI John Luther to shoot the long-awaited “Luther” movie later this year.
The BBC One crime drama series first aired in 2010 and has run for five seasons, often with large gaps of several years between them. Despite the long delays, the show’s audience has only increased with time.
Recently Elba spoke to Capital FM (via Movieweb) where he was asked what he will be up to in 2021. He revealed the film version of the series will go before cameras this year:
“Apart from making more music, people that love my film and stuff, listen, I’m going to be making Luther: The Movie. I’m super excited and I hope the fans are sort of excited for that. It’s been a long time coming for a movie, so I’m excited about that.”
The series last aired back in January 2019 and saw Luther being sent to jail while his psychopathic love interest Alice (Ruth Wilson) took a great fall – but then her body disappeared. Thus any film would likely start off with Luther’s release from prison.
