The 7 Biggest False Beliefs People Have About Starting an Online Business

It could be advice you’ve given yourself or it is more than likely advice given to you by family, friends and teachers who care about your best interests.

The matter of the fact is that this conventional wisdom and advice is often a combination of half-truths, myths and just plain lies about what it takes to build a business online. On top of that, the people who give you this advice have probably never been successful themselves.

Before you get depressed and punch your keyboard, you should take the positives out of this. Because there is so much terrible information and hype posted everywhere building a business it keeps the real competition down.

Meaning more money in your bank account if you ignore it…

So you must learn to ignore bad advice and stop making excuses for yourself! And in this post I want to clear your head of any false beliefs you have so you can go on and make money online.

False Belief No.1 – “I’m too old/ I’m too young”

People who want to buy products on the internet do not care about your age; they only care about what you can offer them. It sounds a bit selfish but it works in your favour.

As long as you are genuine and offer real value to the customer it’s a case of if you have what they want, they’ll buy it.

False Belief No.2 – “I’m no good with computers”

Can you move a mouse and switch on a computer? Can you read plain text and follow simple steps? Good, because that’s all the technical knowledge your going to need.

As long as you have the ability to learn a few easy skills step by step you can create an online business.

Back in the eighties when computers were huge and only read plain text you did have to know programming to do anything with a computer. Luckily for us, these days you don’t need any programming skills to get a perfectly fine website up and running using the power of outsourcing which I will talk about in a separate blog post.

False Belief No.3 – “I don’t have enough time”

This is plain wrong, this is the exact excuse most people use to put off important tasks.

I understand that some people love the structure of a job where they show up each day, and do what the boss tells them to do until they go home. They are content trading their precious time for money.

However, if you’re an entrepreneur you can get things done on your own without having a boss telling you what to do. Are you an entrepreneur? I hope so.

The real trick here is to always know your very next step and to make sure you take small actions to complete that step regularly.

False Belief No.4 – “I don’t have enough money”

Wait, you don’t have enough money to buy a domain name for $10 a year and $5 a month to host your website? I bet you do and if your finances are really that tight then why not just not eat out for dinner one night a month?

People have this belief that it costs hundreds, if not thousands of dollars to be up and running with a full-featured, good looking websites and that just is not the case.

You can outsource this whole process for a very low price.

Another handy little secret most people don’t even think about is leveraging other peoples time, equipment and expertise.

If you want to shoot a video but you don’t have a camera. Don’t go out and buy a brand new one, ask around and chances are someone will have a camera they will happily let you borrow for a day or too.

False Belief No. 5 – “I’m not educated enough”

This should be worried about this – that is if you are applying to university or law school. You will need some impressive grades and don’t forget all those extra-curricular activities.

Wait, you’re not applying to law school? You just want to create an online business and make money on the internet? Then why should your education – or lack of education stop you?

This is exactly the same principle as in False Belief No.1. People who buy on the web don’t really care about your background as long as you offer them value and solve their problem.

False Belief No.6 – “There’s too much competition”

Your main goal is to make money, not become a pioneer.

Think about it, it’s a good thing to enter an established market because you know there is already a high demand for your product. And here’s the really great news, most of your competition online are terrible marketers!

Become a master of internet marketing and you can make money in any online market, no matter how much competition there is.

False Belief No.7 – “It’s a bad economy”

It is true that every day newspapers, the internet and television are full of negatives stories about the economy. That doesn’t mean you can’t still make money..

Let’s say for example that there is a 10% unemployment rate (very high) and another 5% have given up looking altogether. That still leaves 85% employment and those people are still buyers.

Okay so maybe some online markets will suffer more than others but if you offer a high quality product in a market with high demand you will still make money, it has been proven by hundreds of internet marketers all over the world.

From this point forward you cannot use any the above 7 points above as an excuse for not starting your online business. The biggest obstacle you must face in the beginning is yourself!

Bookmark this page just and if you ever feel yourself starting to make excuses come back here and convince yourself that you CAN make money online. I know you can.
