The 2020 Emmy Award Winners

The Television Academy is currently announcing the winners for the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards with Jimmy Kimmel hosting the ceremony – the first major Hollywood awards ceremony of the coronavirus pandemic era.

The ceremony made headlines with “Schitt’s Creek,” which had never won a single Emmy for any of its five prior seasons, snagging a clean sweep of the comedy category in its final year with not just best comedy series but all four leads winning acting honors, and the show winning both writing and directing.

In the limited series category, “Watchmen” dominated with multiple wins including best mini-series, best writing for a mini-series/movie and acting honors for Regina King and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

On the drama series front “Succession” snagged the most with wins for best drama series, writing, directing, and actor, though the other acting categories were more divided up with the likes of “Ozark,” “Euphoria” and “The Morning Show” snagging honors. Shows like “The Mandalorian,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” and “Hollywood” which dominated the Creative Arts Emmys appear to have missed out on all the major awards.
