Sky to hike prices for millions of customers

Sky customers will be facing a huge price hike of up to £72 a year in April.

The change is set to come into effect for existing TV and broadband customers from April 1.

Meanwhile, home phone users will also see their prices increase from May 1.

Any new customers that take up the services will see increased pricing from tomorrow, February 17.

If you are a Sky customer then the size of your price increase will depend on what services you’re signed up to.

While the largest is reserved for heavy subscribers at £6 a month (working out to £72 a year), Sky said the average increase will more likely be £3 a month – so £36 a year.

How much will my Sky bill increase?

The incoming price hike will depend on which Sky services you are signed up to.

Here’s how it breaks down.

  • The Sky Signature package will increase from £25 a month to £26 a month
  • The Multiscreen package will increase from £14 a month to £15 a month
  • Sky HD will increase from £6 a month to £7 a month
  • Sky Ultimate will increase from £4 a month to £5 a month
  • BT Sport will increase from £25 a month to £27 a month
  • Sky Broadband Essential will increase from £22 a month to £25 a month
  • Sky Broadband Superfast will increase from £27 a month to £28 a month
  • Sky Talk Anytime Extra will increase from £10 a month to £12 a month
  • Sky Talk International Extra will increase from £12 a month to £14 a month

Some services, like Sky Mobile, Sky Sports, Sky Cinema and Sky Kids are unaffected by the price rise so won’t be getting an increase.

If you’re affected by the price increases, Sky will notify you of the exact increase by email or post between February 17 and March 27.

‘We appreciate the importance of keeping our customers informed, connected and entertained,’ a Sky spokesperson told Metro.co.uk

‘We know price increases are never welcome and we try to keep prices down whilst still delivering the content our customers love, the flexibility to choose the package that suits them and with leading customer service.’
