You cannot always be with your children. At some point or the other, you have to let them go. So, for that stage, it is important for your children to be acquainted with the basic road safety tips. You should teach them how to maintain safety on the roads. Even if you hire a car or a school bus to pick and drop your child, this step is important. Color of The Signals
Suppose, while returning from school your child will have to cross the road. So, this time understanding the signals will help them to prevent accidents. Teach them the meaning of each of the signal color and tell them the best time to cross the road. Let them know that they should not walk when the light is red.
To Look, Stop and Cross
Teach the child to cross the street safely. Tell them that they should always look for the signal if it is green or not. If there is no signal, make sure that they look at both the sides of the road to find out if there is any vehicle is on the way. Before they cross the road, they should make sure that the road is empty. They should then cross the road. Never advise them to cross at bends. If your child is less than 6 years of age, you should accompany them.
Using Sidewalks
Sidewalks or footpath usage should be taught to them. If you use walk sidewalks when you talk with them, then they will learn to walk on them. In times when the street is busy using the sidewalk is the best idea.
Say No to Running
Children are naughty. The do not keep focus on the road equally like elders. While they are on the streets they might start running as they do not know what is right or wrong. Teach them that they might meet with an accident if they start running and consequently hurt themselves. Teach them to stay calm and focus on the road.
Never Stick Their Hands Out A Vehicle
Children often try to show something outside the moving vehicle. This can be dangerous. Teach them not to put their hands out of a car or vehicle. They need to be careful of an approaching vehicle that comes from the opposite direction.
If you teach them all these things then they will be safer when on the roads. This will help them to avoid accidents.
