Oscar winners Natalie Portman and Lupita Nyong’o will headline the limited series “Lady in the Lake” on the Apple TV+ service.
Set in Baltimore in the 1960s, an unsolved murder pushes housewife and mother Maddie Schwartz (Portman) to reinvent herself as an investigative reporter.
Her new calling puts her on a collision course with Cleo Sherwood (Nyong’o), a woman who juggled motherhood, several jobs and a commitment to the city’s Black progressive agenda until her body was found in a city park lake.
Cleo’s ghost follows Maddie on her quest to uncover the mystery of her death, the two women’s lives soon become intertwined. Apple has handed out a straight to series order for the project based on the best-selling novel by Laura Lippmann.
“Honey Boy” helmer Alma Har’el directs the entire run and co-writes with Dre Ryan (“The Man in the High Castle”). Jean-Marc Vallee executive produces. This marks Portman’s first regular role on television.
