Showtime has canceled its spin-off series “Penny Dreadful: City of Angels” after just one season.
In a statement, the cabler says: “We decided not to move forward with another season of ‘Penny Dreadful: City of Angels.’ We would like to thank executive producers John Logan, Michael Aguilar and the entire cast and crew for their outstanding work on this project.”
The series was sold as “a spiritual descendant” of the original Victorian-era London set “Penny Dreadful” series which ran for three seasons to acclaim. Reviews for this incarnation were decent but not great.
Natalie Dormer, Daniel Zovatto, Nathan Lane, Michael Gladis, Lorenza Izzo, Adam Rodriguez, Thomas Kretschmann, Dominic Sherwood and Ethan Peck starred in the show which wrapped in June.
