Comcast has announced that their NBC Universal streaming service Peacock has reached 33 million subscribers as of the end of 2020. That is far ahead of projections as Comcast had hoped to reach 35 million subscribers by the end of 2024.
Peacock subscriber numbers rose by a whopping 11 million in the fourth quarter, with more than half that coming in the last three weeks of the year. The rise is partly attributed to Peacock becoming the exclusive streaming home of “The Office” from January 1st.
The impact “The Office” on subscriber numbers won’t really be revealed until April, same with their recent deal with the WWE Network to become the exclusive streaming home to thousands of hours of wrestling content.
Peacock’s number jump is being helped by both its offering of a free ad-supported tier and by making its premium tier free for Comcast cable subscribers.
