Actor Jim Caviezel has confirmed that the sequel to Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ,” in which he played Jesus Christ, is still very much in the works.
The 2004 original amassed nearly $400 million at the domestic box office and $612 million worldwide – all on a production budget of $30 million. It still holds the title of the highest-grossing R-rated film in the United States. A follow-up has been in the works for sometime but it’s never been clear as to when it will move beyond the development phase.
Speaking with Breitbart News, Caviezel confirmed the status of the sequel saying: “Mel Gibson just sent me the third picture, the third draft. It’s coming. It’s called ‘The Passion of the Christ: Resurrection’. It’s going to be the biggest film in world history.”
How Gibson will handle the material is no doubt going to cause controversy amongst not just believers and non-believers but within different groups of believers as well depending upon what he decides to portray. Essentially it could be more of a hot topic than the original was.
