Cooper Hoffman, the 17-year-old son of Oscar-winning actor Phillip Seymour Hoffman, has been revealed as the star of “There Will Be Blood” and “Phantom Thread” director Paul Thomas Anderson’s untitled 1970s-set coming-of-age story which is currently in production under the working title “Soggy Bottom”.
Hoffman is playing the child actor at the center of the movie which involves multiple storylines and is set in the San Fernando Valley in that period. Hoffman and singer-songwriter Alana Haim are effectively the two leads, both making their screen debuts here, with Bradley Cooper serving as the main supporting character.
Other casting remains under wraps beyond a role for Bennie Safdie. Phillip Seymour Hoffman starred in at least five Anderson films before the legendary actor’s death in 2014. Anderson wrote and is producing the new film alongside Sarah Murphy for MGM.
