Starz has officially announced that the sixth season of “Outlander” will premiere in early 2022 as production on the new run winds up this week.
The new season will consist of only eight episodes rather than the usual twelve due to pandemic complications and delays. The premiere however will run for a full 90 minutes.
Starz has already renewed the show for a seventh season and that will be shot next year and expanded to sixteen episodes to compensate for the sixth season’s abbreviated episode order.
Another key change is that while the sixth season will be based on just the sixth book, the seventh season will adapt both the seventh and eighth books in the series. Author Diana Gabaldon’s ninth novel will be out this coming November.
In the sixth season, The Frasers strive to maintain peace and flourish within a society which – as Claire knows all too well – is unwittingly marching towards the American Revolution.
They must now defend this home – established on land granted to them by the Crown – not only from external forces but also from the increasing strife and conflict in the community within their care.
