NXT TakeOver: Triple H admits Karrion Kross injury could impact Keith Lee’s future plans after shock championship loss

NXT TakeOver XXX ended with a shock as Karrion Kross defeated Keith Lee for the NXT Championship.

The Limitless One’s first reign with the title ended on its first defence, with many left wondering whether this could mean move away from WWE’s black and gold brand, but Triple H has hinted that isn’t on the cards just yet.

Asked where Keith goes from here, the NXT boss told Metro.co.uk: ‘I think that’s the thing you have to watch now, right?

‘So things don’t just happen, they’re there for a reason. It’s storytelling across the board and things happen for a reason. I don’t wanna give anything away so you just have to watch now.

‘Keith is a star, a certified star, and I think that he has proved that over the last year, and I think he’s proved that over the last few months. It’s a piece of a storyline.’

Although Triple H – whose real name is Paul Levesque – called for patience from fans chasing an immediate payoff, he admitted plans can always ‘change’.

In the conference call following tonight’s TakeOver event at Full Sail University, the legendary star admitted new NXT Champion Kross may have separated his shoulder after getting hurt during the main event bout.

Unfortunately, it could end up being a serious injury for the rising superstar after he was seemingly catapulted to the top of the brand, and this could play into Keith Lee’s path.

‘Sometimes I think in today’s moment in time, people just react in the moment,’ Triple H said.

‘Which is understandable, but knowing where things are going and knowing when you watch them through for the following months, you go “OK great, I understand why all this happened”.

‘And sometimes those things change! Obviously, there were injuries tonight and those pieces all change dynamics of everything. But people will understand over time why things were done.’

Elsewhere on the show, Damien Priest claimed the North American Championship, Io Shirai retained her title, Finn Balor overcame Timothy Thatcher and Adam Cole defeated a spirited and impressive Pat McAfee in the latter’s debut match.
