During the online event DC FanDome, a new trailer for The Batman was revealed. It’s been over a year since we saw the first one at 2020’s FanDome. The latest clip for the upcoming movie features a lot of reimaginings of your favorite elements from Batman and Gotham City’s history–and some new spins on your favorite villains.
The Batman arrives in theaters on March 4, 2022–pushed back from a June 2021 release date because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Matt Reeves (War for the Planet of the Apes) is directing the film and writing alongside Peter Craig (Bad Boys for Life), and you can check out the new trailer below, which features a better look at The Riddler and some of his riddles. Additionally, there are some clown-painted thugs attacking Batman. No, there’s no sign of the actual Joker, but this for sure looks like a precursor to him. For more info, read our The Batman trailer breakdown.
The Batman features Robert Pattinson (Tenet) as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Jeffrey Wright (What If…?) as James Gordon, Andy Serkis (Black Panther) as Alfred Pennyworth, Paul Dano (There Will Be Blood) as The Riddler, Colin Farrell (True Detective) as Oswald Cobblepot, and Zoë Kravitz (Mad Max: Fury Road) as Selina Kyle.
The film will follow Batman during his second year as the Dark Knight as he unravels corruption in Gotham City, which his family has connections to. Additionally, he has to deal with The Riddler, who is reportedly a serial killer in the new movie. And yes, he’s still leaving riddles.
Reeves’ world of The Batman will be expanding into a TV series as well. Reeves is developing an HBO Max series that will focus on the Gotham City Police Department. Back in November 2020, showrunner Terrence Winter quit the show due to creative differences. Additionally, there is another HBO Max series in the works centered around Oswald Cobblepot. Farrell has reportedly been approached to star in the series but hasn’t signed anything yet.
