While the “Mortal Kombat” video games are synonymous with their brutal fatalities, arguably the most lingering contribution of the previous 1995 film adaptation was its soundtrack.
More specifically it was the use of “Techno Syndrome,” a 1993 song composed by Oliver Adams and performed by the Belgian techno duo The Immortals, that became well known for its early techno-wizardry and that signature yell of the game’s title.
Cut to 2021 and the upcoming new take on the property sees composer Benjamin Wallfisch putting a new spin on the classic theme for the film.
Now the final product has been released and its a solid work, sounding like a house remix of the original and something more akin to a version you’ll hear in a nightclub. Simon McQuoid helms the film which hits theaters and HBO Max on April 23rd.
