Netflix has premiered the first images for the new “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” film which takes the 2018 “Halloween” approach and serves as a direct sequel to Tobe Hooper’s original 1974 classic – ignoring the other sequels.
In the film, the story begins many years later in a time where no one ever saw or heard about Leatherface again.
Mark Burnham takes on the role of the chainsaw-wielding killer, while Olwen Fouere will play an older version of Sally Hardesty – the ‘final girl’ character which Marilyn Burns played in Hooper’s original.
Also onboard are Elsie Fisher, Sarah Yarkin, Moe Dunford, Alice Krige, Jacob Latimore, Nell Hudson, Jessica Allain, Sam Douglas, William Hope and Jolyon Coy.
Fede Álvarez produces the project which he tells EW is “pretty hardcore” but retains the “simplicity of that first film”. David Blue Garcia directs from a script by Chris Thomas Devlin, and the filmmakers went out of their way to keep everything as practical as possible with minimal digital effects.
The new film will premiere on Netflix on February 18th 2022.
