The Sundance Film Festival has announced its award winners for this year with the top Grand Jury Prize handed out to Nikyatu Jusu’s horror-thriller “Nanny” in the U.S. Dramatic Competition section.
“Nanny” stars Anna Diop (“Titans”) as an immigrant piecing together a new life in New York while caring for an Upper East Side family. She is forced to confront a concealed truth that threatens to shatter her precarious American Dream. Michelle Monaghan and Sinqua Walls also star.
Another big winner was the recent Apple pickup “Cha Cha Real Smooth” which won the Audience Award in the U.S. Dramatic Competition section. The comedy-drama stars director Cooper Raif as a directionless New Jersey college graduate who gets over his head in a relationship with a young mom and her autistic teenage daughter.
The Grand Jury Prize in the World Dramatic Competition went to Alejandro Loayza Grisi’s “Utama” from Bolivia while the Audience Award in that section went to “Girl Picture” from Bolivia.
On the documentary front, Grand Jury Prizes went to “The Exiles” and “All That Breathes” while Audience Awards went to “Nalvany” and “The Territory”. “Navalny” also scored a Festival Favorite Award.
