Mikel Arteta provides Bukayo Saka injury update after missing Olympiacos clash

Bukayo Saka will be assessed ahead of Arsenal’s Premier League clash with West Ham United with Mikel Arteta unsure if his player will travel on international duty.

Saka was left out of the squad as Arsenal booked their place in the Europa League quarter-finals with a 3-2 aggregate win over Olympiacos.

The 19-year-old was taken off at half-time during last weekend’s 2-1 north London derby victory over Tottenham, with Arteta explaining after the match that he was withdrawn due to a hamstring issue.

The Arsenal boss explained ahead of Thursday’s clash Saka was ‘not fit’.

And speaking after the match, the Gunners boss admitted he is unsure if he will have the player available this weekend.

‘We don’t know, it depends how he feels in the next few days,’ Arteta told a post-match press conference.

‘We spoke yesterday, he wasn’t near ready to be involved for today. We made the decision.

‘We will make the decision for Sunday against West Ham and then we will talk with the doctors and the national team to decide what we do.’

On Thursday afternoon, Saka was named in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for World Cup qualifiers against San Marino at home on 25 March, away to Albania on 28 March and against Poland back at Wembley on 31 March.
