Man Utd reignite interest in £90m duo in Solskjaer plot

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still hopeful of adding to his Manchester United squad this summer, with Kieran Trippier and Ruben Neves remaining key targets.

United have spent over £100million so far this summer, with Jadon Sancho arriving from Borussia Dortmund and Raphael Varane joining from Real Madrid.

But 90min claim Solskjaer is looking to further strengthen his squad by bringing in two further signings before the window closes on August 31.

The report claims the Norwegian boss is keen on adding a full-back and a midfielder to his ranks.

United have been linked throughout the summer with a move for former Spurs right-back Kieran Trippier.

The report claims Trippier and his representatives had told United that they were open to a move and believed Atletico would listen to offers in the region of £30million.

But the Spanish champions are now said to not be willing to sell for anything short of £50million – a fee United are unlikely to stretch to given Trippier turns 31 next month.

The Red Devils remain hopeful a breakthrough can still be made in negotiations, but Atletico would have to lower their demands.

Solskjaer is also reportedly keen on Neves, another player frequently linked with a move to Old Trafford.

The Portugal international – who joined Wolves from Porto in 2017 – is said to be available should United table a £40million bid.

The report states that the United bosses remain hopeful of securing the fee necessary for the 24-year-old through the sale of unwanted squad players.

Andreas Pereira is closing in on an exit from Old Trafford, while there have been rumours of Jesse Lingard securing another move away after his successful loan spell at West Ham.

But Solskjaer claims Lingard has a “good part to play” in his squad.

He said: “Jesse’s first priority is to get into our team. I think we together can have great moments. Of course, as a manager it’s difficult to say that this weekend you’re not playing.

“I’ve got to leave players out from the squad as well as the starting XI but they all need to remember they will all play a part if we are going to be successful. Jesse is back to his fitness and has come back bubbly and in good shape so he has a good part to play.”
